Rose Maria White born November 20, 1938 passed away on May 18, 2020 at Polk City Nursing and Rehabilitation Center from complications of diabetes following a long, courageous battle.

She is preceded in death by her high school sweetheart and husband of 63 years Michael J. White and her granddaughter Cheri Mari White. She is survived by her 4 loving children; Keith (Melinda) White, Larry (Sujie) White, Robert (Tasha) White, Cindi Doornenbal (Larry Schincke); 3 brothers; Jim, Rex and Danny Osborn, 8 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

In her younger years, Rose enjoyed traveling to beautiful new places with her husband on the trips he earned while working in flooring sales. She also enjoyed the simple life of spending time with family and friends. She was a loving, involved and active grandparent. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren; whether it was playing cards, creating her own games, having impromptu fashion shows that included laughing until it hurt, teaching them to sew, crochet, cook or bake her famous Red Velvet Waldorf Cake, Rose spent her time giving to them. She loved music of all kinds from Beethoven to Neil Diamond to Pink Floyd. Whatever time you shared with Rose was certain to make the best of memories and she was sure to capture those moments from behind her camera.

As she lived her life the best she could while battling mental illness, she taught us many things. Compassion and understanding is all it takes to see the beauty in the world. Creative talent and an unforgettable spark for life is often found in those fighting that same battle. Raised in a time where you did not discuss such things, our hope is that her memory will be honored by talking openly about mental illness and embracing the beauty that comes along with the struggles those with mental illness face. She was a talented song writer among many other things and always had an easy time finding the fun in life. She will be greatly missed but Rose could never be forgotten.

1 in 5 Americans struggle with mental illness at some point in their lives. In lieu of flowers please send donations to the National Alliance on Mental Illness or St. Croix Hospice of Central Iowa.

Inurnment will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, June 22, 2020, at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. A memorial remembrance will be held at a later date.
