We will never forget what an honor it was to share the stage with the Ole' Youngster at so many of the Rock 'n Roll Reunion shows at the Iowa State Fair, as well as all of the good times we shared at the Val Air Ballroom.
Dic will be remembered as not only one of the greatest radio announcers ever but also as a friend and an all-around great guy.
He will be missed.

Youngsy was a wonderful colleague and a true gentleman.
Every time the fates would allow our paths to cross produced a memorable and positive experience for me.
His sense of humor and his spirit that came over the radio rightlyfully earned him the title of Legend.
I was very proud to have know him.
With prayful condolences.

I attended East High School with Dick, and he became an inspiration to many of his classmates, if the class clown could make it big, any person could. He has done so much for our community and lifted many a spirit. He was definately our hero. I will always remember the snowstorm of 1959 when Young's and his friend Louie Y. removed beer off my parents front porch. We have laughed for years over this one.(we had no power due to the storm, so refrigerated things were move to the porch) Dic you were truly a hero to many, and our heart goes out to your wife and daughter, and hope they find condolence in the fact that you were very Special to all of Iowa.
Today is a sad day for many

Dic will be missed by so many especially us eastsiders and East High classmates. I used to sunbathe on weekends while listening to Dic on the radio. In the 80's, I was traveling by plane and Dic was in the very seat next to me. He kept the plane in stitches all the way to Des Moines. The stewardes hovered over us joining in the "out of control" laughter. What a ride!
I moved back to Des Moines in 2006, after having lived in Phoenix for 20 yrs. The very first thing I did was to tune into KIOA to see if Dic was still on the air. A familiar voice made the transition back to Iowa so much easier. Radio won't be the same without him.
My sincerest condolences to you and your family. My prayers are with each of you.

Jan, I am going to miss Dic's phone calls, checking up on each other, taking a moment to say, "I know you are out there and I care." In high school, we were competitors and friends, in later years, we settled into just being friends. I think Dic had a list of people in his heart that he knew needed his support. I will always be grateful to have been on his list. I will miss him. He was a good friend.

Dick was one of the really good guys, he always had a smile on his face and was a pleasure to have known. Another light has gone out in Des Moines but the glow remains with those of us who knew him.

"Youngsy"
You were always bigger than life itself. Thanks for your friendship and the memories - too many to try to remember them all through High School, the Army and your wonderful career in radio and on the public stage. Yes you will be missed but think you departed the way you wanted, quickly and still as popular as ever.
Rest in peace old friend. It was a great ride.
Your long time friends,
Jim and Linda

I worked at KIOA briefly in the early 90's. I was probably the worst salesperson they ever had, but Youngsy was always trying to help me out by giving me leads. I'm not surprised he died of heart failure. His heart was so GOOD and so BIG, it probably just wore out. Jennifer, I had pizza with you and your dad a long time ago at The Tavern in Valley Junction. You had just flown in to spend some time with him over the summer. I hope you know how proud he was of you and how much he loved and adored you. I'm sure you do. Jan, I only met you once when you were with Dic at Noah's. I'm so happy he had someone to share his life with. My deepest sympathy to you and your family and all of Dic's friends for this tremendous loss. Rest in peace, Youngsy. Thanks for all the good you did in life. You were one of a kind!

I am so very sorry for your loss, can never think of anything really profound at a time like this, just know that you are in my thoughts and prayers. went to Amos and East with Dick, so feel like I have known him most of my life. He was such a clown in school so it seemed only natural that he chose to be a DJ. Am so sorry that I will not be able to attend Sunday, we have another obligation this weekend.

I had the honor of being born on the same day as
Dic. Which meant when in Junior High we shared the same Home Room. I attended Junior and Senior High with Dic watched him play football and baseball.
Listened to his show from the start. I remember going out on broadway and driving by the small station where he was broadcasting from.
During his career he did many stunts to raise funds for charity and I always would listen to his show.
I was saddened when I saw he died the day after his birthday and my thoughts and prayers go out to the family and many friends.
A great East Sider a tribute to Lee Township.
Your friend forever

Mark worked with Dick at KIOA and had an enjoyable time chatting up with Dick and taking in a few lunches. I, Pat Currier Minnick was a classmate of Dick's and remember him as the ultimate class clown. A really fun guy to have around.
To Dick's family we express our condolences on the loss of your love one and now know you will always have the fondest of memories of Dick's life.
