Paul Dedrick Gray, was born on April 8, 1972 in Hollywood, California and died at the age of 38, on Monday, May 24, 2010 in Urbandale, Iowa.
Paul was easy going, charismatic, enjoyed his music, cars, his fans, Starbucks and spending time with his family and friends. He loved his puppies and of course, smoking his Marlboro Reds.
He is survived by his wife, Brenna Marie Gray; his daughter, October Dedrick Gray; mother, Nancy Gray – Miller and her husband, James; brothers, Damon “Tony” Gray and his wife, Melissa, William “Jay” Matthews and his wife Lillian; nieces, Ashley and Hanna Gray; mother-in-law, Erin Alpaugh and sister-in-law Ashley Alpaugh; and his 8 brothers in Slipknot. He was preceded in death by his father, Paul Anthony Gray and his grandmother, Hellen B. Westby.
He was the kind of person that really wanted everybody to always get along. He was a great husband, brother, son and friend. Paul is going to be sadly missed and the world is going to be a different place with out him!
Private Funeral Services were held Friday, May 28, 2010.

10 years ago today the music stopped playing for Paul and all of his Slipknot family. You still have such a huge impact on everyone. Your loss was a great one! Your memory is still very much alive!

I don't know you personally but I am thinking of you all right now. I went to the Sydney show with my friend last month, and we were reflecting on Paul in the weeks leading up to it. My friend and I made jumpsuits and masks and hers was #2. I can't imagine how all of you who truly knew Paul would feel. I'm so sorry that you all had to live through this nightmare, without your friend. I hope your days have become a bit easier. I am not religious but I do believe in souls and I am sure Paul would be present in some way. Much love from an Aussie girl x

I'm truly sorry for your loss (and I wish I had found this site sooner). My husband and I had known about Slipknot for several years, but Psychosocial is the one that caught my attention, while my husband found Duality. As time passed, and life goes on, I wound up losing my husband Gary in 2014, just weeks shy of his 38th birthday. So I can understand some of how you feel. Believe me, I have my own lawyer for what went down in ICU. I think of you often. Just know that all these years later, people who have become fans, still grieve with you and for you, for his daughter, mother, and brothers. Blessings

I have been a Slipknot Maggot since the 5th grade. Slipknot has helped me get through a lot of obstacles in life. Whenever I wasn't feeling good, I would play a Slipknot song, which always helped get the pain out. I saw Slipknot for the first time in Greensboro, NC in 2009 and it was one of the best concerts I ever saw in my whole life. You are one of the few hundred people I have always looked up to and I wish I could have met you. I cried hard for nearly 2 hours when I heard the news about you. It was one of the worst days of my life. There's not a day goes by that I don't think about you. Slipknot will never be the same without you. God bless you and thank you for being a very special human being and putting an awesome band together that makes great music. I'll always remember you and you will be sadly missed.

Tonight I was watching some vids of Slipknot and some interviews by Paul on YouTube, and my thoughts went out to you all over again...it's been over two years now, and it only seems like yesterday..Paul looked like someone that I would have loved to have met and from what I could see, Paul was also a kind gentle soul who loved you and all his fans dearly, and just seeing his little girl at his resting place just tugged at the heartstrings here....the world is just an empty place without him in it...my heart aches for you and the family and I hope to someday visit Paul and pay my most heartfelt respects to him....he lives on in our hearts,and his music, forever....Rest In Peace Paulie, you will be greatly missed and always loved by us all....peace brother!!!!!

I don't have much to say. But Paul was a HUGE influence to my bass playing, and without him I probably would have never picked up a bass guitar. Rest in Peace Paul, may the angels take you home.

It's been 2 years but it feels like 2 minutes since i got the news. I got a text from a friend telling me about Paul and it hit like a bullet. Joey said that whenever you stick on a Slipknot track, Paulie is there with you. As cliche as this sounds, he will never die in the hearts of us maggots. He's always here. I won't forget what your band has got me through, Paul. I think i speak for everyone when i say it's helped us all. You're never forgotten. You're still alive in your music, and that will never die. Slipknot helped me through so much in my life, and it still does. I feel blessed to have been able to see you in 2008 here in England. That's one night i will remember forever. Even if she will never meet you, October will know that her father would have loved her more than anything. She will grow up, look back on Slipknot's history with pride and say her dad helped build that empire. I keep Brenna and October in my thoughts and prayers all day. It's been so hard to write this so i'd hate to think what your family and the 'knot are going through. We all miss you Paul, it just wasn't fair how you were took so early, you had so much to give. Brenna, I have read the letter you had posted to all the fans, and I can't tell you how much it means to us to hear from you. I wanted to cry when I saw the picture of October and her daddy. It was very overwhelming to see. She will never have her daddy to help her through things, or go to when she really needs advice. I, myself, never had a dad, So I know just how hard it will be for her. I believe you have the strength, courage, and the love she needs to be just fine. Paul and our brothers of Slipknot, have touched so many lives, and that's somethings she can be proud of. There are a thousands of us that honestly don't know where we would be without them. Could be easily be many things, including death. Slipknot is more than just music, Paul is more than just a musician. When no one else in the world could understand, They took us under their wing and into the family of the Maggots. Every single year around this time, All of us Maggots will still be thinking of you, Brenna, and your beautiful daughter October. Please keep the updates coming as we would love to hear from you. Take care of your family to the best that you can, and know that we are here if you ever need anything. To the family of Paul Grey.I am truly sorry for you loss,even though I never knew Paul personally he has touched my life deeply.I still feel the loss of him.In honor of him I have his face tattooed on my left forearm.Paul was a great person,friend,and much more.He to my self and the FaceBook family I belong to known as the FilthyMaggots all love and miss him sooo much.I pray blessings on you all and know in my heart Paul will never be forgotten.RIP my fallen brother.

I would like to personally extend my condolences for the loss of Paul Dedrick Gray. Needless to say when I heard the news, I was completely devastated. I couldn't, or didn't want to, accept that someone so dear to me could be gone in an instant. This man's music has not only been an inspiration in my life, but a message of hope. I have been through immense torment and emotional abuse in my life, so finding his music was very important to me. I can honestly say that if it weren't for the art that this man created, I would have most likely been dead some years ago, mind you I am only 18 years old now. Though his daughter will never be able to physically know her father, I'm sure that she will be proud of every single one of his accomplishments. My condolences go to Brenna especially, I know it is hard to accept that he is gone, but I can assure you that he is still here among us, everyday; smiling, laughing, and watching over us. I feel honored to be able to say that (even though I never had the pleasure of meeting him) I had a Brother who knew who I was and loved me for it!

Family and friends of Paul Gray,
I'm sorry to hear about your loss. I cried when he died too, I really love SLIPKNOT and it ain't the same without Paul Gray. I know you hear about this alot but I really am sorry and know how you feel. He was a good man, kind, caring, and artist. He loved and cared about you alot from what i saw in his interviews. I really didn't knw him but, I wish i did. People think I'm weird because i love SLIPKNOT and they think girls shouldn't but i don't care. Alot of people almost died by hearing about your husband/dad/friend/brother's death at school and everybody misses him. It must be hard for you and your daughter and i'm seriously sorry. I wish you the best for you and your family.
