Hamilton's Academy of Grief & Loss - Assistant - Filled

The primary goal of the Academy Assistant is to provide administrative support to the Academy Director as well as for Academy programs & assistance with responding to requests from Hamilton’s families and the community.

This is a flexible, part-time position. It may include occasional evening and weekend hours depending upon Academy activities.

Pay is based on skills, experience and performance.

  1. I am paid to live Hamilton’s Funeral Home Mission Statement and Core Values at all times.
  2. I am paid to contribute to the ongoing building of a positive, professional and competent team.
  3. I am paid to assist the Director in the delivery and marketing of all the Community Interaction Projects.
  4. I am paid to be a key Academy link with Family Services Coordinators for several of Hamilton’s major projects through the Academy.
  5. I am paid to help provide administrative support for Academy programs and assistance with responding to requests from Hamilton’s families & the community.
  6. I am paid to contribute to the ongoing development of Hamilton’s Academy of Grief & Loss.

Key Activities

  1. Demonstrate in my daily work an understanding of Hamilton’s Mission Statement and Core Values
  2. Assist the Director with the marketing (both internally and externally) and delivery of the Academy’s many Community Interaction Projects
  3. Help with keeping the Academy information listed on our website up to date
  4. Assist with the preparation and execution of the Academy’s two children’s grief programs: Little Hands and Healing Hearts throughout the year
  5. Provide assistance with the Academy’s continued involvement providing grief support to central Iowa schools
  6. Provide administrative support for maintaining our Grief Resource Library, providing Educational Tours and preparation for Presentations in the community
  7. Help with the ordering and maintaining of Academy materials and supplies
  8. Assist with fulfilling requests (phone, e-mail, etc.) for Academy materials and resources and tracking that activity level
  9. Assist with fulfilling database-generated mailing contacts with Hamilton’s families
  10. Assist with maintaining and continuing to develop collaborations with other area support groups
  11. Assist Hamilton’s families with first viewing support when requested

Job Requirements

Computer skills:
Efficiency with Microsoft Office:
Word, Excel, Publisher, Power Point, Outlook
Familiarity with social media platforms

Office skills:
Excellent customer service skills
Experience with phone systems
Familiarity with forms for documenting information, electronically and written
Exceptional organizational abilities
Able to work independently

Education, Work Experience

Comfortable working with individuals in grief and/or trauma situations
AA degree; college degree in related field preferred but not required

Personal Abilities:

Compassion for people in a grief environment
Ability to be flexible and respond to quick change of direction if needed
