Lorraine Jean McNeeley

Lorraine Jean McNeeley was born on February 20, 1939 to Alva Wesley (Ike) and Gladys Louise
Anderson in a house on 7th street in Valley Junction (West Des Moines) Iowa. She went home on May 26th, at the age of 87.
She was the youngest of three children — brother Raymond and sister Loretta (Lori) They moved to a house on 8th street when she was a few weeks old. She graduated from Valley High School in 1957. While in school she enjoyed being a part of the Civil Air Patrol with her best friend, where she was a lieutenant.
In the fall of 1957, she became engaged to Robert “Jerry” McNeeley and they were married April 26, 1958. Lorraine worked at Bankers Life after graduation until she was married. In 1959, they started their family with a son, Gary and then in 1960 added another son, Roger. A few years later in 1965, they added a daughter, Debra.
Lorraine attended Berean Assembly of God and for decades worked as a Sunday School secretary. She also was a leader in Prims and was part of the Easter Play. When her children began school, she started working part time at Logan Elementary in the food service industry. She continued in this field and began working full time at East High School until 1984. She took a year off and went back to Amos Hiatt until 2001 when she retired.
Lorraine became a grandmother starting in 1986 and then a great grandmother in 2008. She absolutely adored her grandchildren. She enjoyed getting hugs from all of them and spoiling them. She always had the cookie jar full for their visits.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry; her son, Roger; her parents — Ike and Gladys; her brother Ray and sister Loretta.
She is survived by son, Gary (Lori) McNeeley, daughter, Debra (Jeff) Bleadorn, daughter-in-Law Linda McNeeley. Her granddaughters — Rose (Craig) LaCour, Amber (Mike) Voogd, Crystal McNeeley, Alyssa McNeeley and Courtney (Nick McDonnell) McNeeley. Also, by 6 great grandchildren and 4 bonus great grandsons. And several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Monday, June 1, 2026 at Hamilton's Funeral Home 605 Lyon St, Des Moines Iowa. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, June 2, 2026 at Berean Assembly of God Church, 5299 E University Ave (Highway 163), Pleasant Hill Iowa 50327. Interment will be at Resthaven Cemetery in West Des Moines Iowa.
