Service Details

Cameron Mark Carico, 15, died Saturday, January 28, 2012, at home. Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, February 2, 2012, at Oakwood United Methodist Church, 400 NE 56th Street in Pleasant Hill, Iowa, with burial at Oakwood Cemetery.

Cameron was born July 25, 1996, in Des Moines, Iowa. From the beginning, Cameron touched everyone he met. He was quick with a hug, or a radiant smile, providing a source of joy and comfort for many. Cameron’s willingness to accept all people and his ability to talk to anyone made him a true and caring friend. His loyalty and his loving heart made him a very special son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin and friend.

Always the entertainer, Cameron was a big contributor to the conversation and laughter at the Carico home. He loved his Dad’s cooking, Mom’s nurturing and his sister, Kate’s companionship. Kate and Cameron enjoyed water skiing together and tubing wars which always ended with someone landing in the lake with lots of laughing. The family had year-round favorites, such as traveling to spring training for Cardinals baseball games in Florida, boating at Saylorville Lake, attending Iowa Cubs baseball games, tailgating at Iowa State Football games, and cheering for the ISU basketball team in the winter.

Full of energy, Cameron loved the many great adventures he had with his extended family, from going to Disney World with the Carico family, to boating at the Lake of the Ozarks with the Cameron family. Cameron was very close with his cousins, and from an early age he was a “big kid” playing, golfing, and skiing with those twice his age.

A ninth grader at Johnston Middle School in Johnston, Iowa, Cameron was a member of Pursuing Victory with Honor Club. Having grown up in the Johnston area, he had many friends through all of his activities. Cameron enjoyed his sports, such as basketball, baseball, track and football. He was a hard competitor and loyal teammate and he made the most of every game he played. Cameron was a member of Oakwood United Methodist Church in Pleasant Hill, Iowa. He loved the Lord and cherished the times he spent reading his favorite Bible scriptures. He enjoyed the church youth group and summer camp with his Oakwood friends.

Cameron is survived by his loving parents, Dawn and Brian Carico of Johnston, Iowa, and his sister, Kate; his maternal grandparents, Richard and Judy Cameron of Grimes, Iowa; and his paternal grandmother, Judy Carico of Pleasant Hill, Iowa; aunts and uncles, Jodi Cameron of Urbandale, Iowa, Diane and Steve Conley of Overland Park, Kansas, Tony and Anita Carico of Ankeny, Iowa, and Denise and Dave Lorber of Canton, Michigan; cousins, Michael and Kelli Cameron and son Tyler, Stephanie and Justin Andersen and son Owen, Timothy Conley, Alison Conley, Dana Lorber, Andi Cameron, Eric Lorber, Kaylea Carico and Kortni Carico; his paternal great-grandmother, Lola Hull; his paternal great-grandfather, Paul Carico; and many other supportive and loving extended family members. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Paul Carico, Jr., and his uncle, Dennis Cameron.
