Butch Mueller was born November 1, 1929, in Meyer, Iowa, the son of Nicholas and Rachael (Goergen) Mueller. He passed away March 17, 2013, at the age of 83.

He received his schooling in Meyer and Riceville. On January 17, 1963, he was united in marriage to Betty Kneedler; they were married for nine loving years. On September 2, 1972, he was united in marriage to Ramona Crewse, and they were married for 28 loving years.

Butch started in his trade as a cook when he was fifteen years old, working in the big name restaurants in Des Moines. He retired after 30 plus years at Younkers Tea Room. Butch was very proud of his German heritage. He served with the United States Army in Germany during the early 1950’s. Butch was a member of the American Legion Post 0659 and VFW Post 9662 in Des Moines.

Butch loved wood crafting, but his greatest passion was football. He had been playing overtime in the football game of life since his stroke in March of 2003.

Butch is survived by his three step-children, Dyantha Ellison of Pleasant Hill, Jim (Chris) Romar of West Des Moines, and Sandy (Tim) Strzyzykowski of Benton Harbor, MI; eight step-grandchildren, two great-step-grandchildren; brother, Paul (Ann) Mueller of Highland Park, IL; sister-in-law, Louise Mueller of Dallas, TX; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Butch was preceded in death by his parents; wives, Betty and Ramona; step-daughter, Joann; brothers, Arnold, Francis, Raymond, Carl, and William; sisters, Rosina Durben, Esther Hartogh, Agnes Bees, and Martha Duebner; sisters-in-law, Lavona Campbell and Hellen Mueller; brothers-in-law, Henry Durben, Mike Hartogh, Howard Bees, Harry “Hap” Duebner, and Whitey Campbell; as well as his mother-in-law, Katie Crewes.

The family would like to thank the Union Park Health Services staff for their loving care.

A funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, March 21, 2013, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 3300 Easton Blvd. in Des Moines. The family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue, Des Moines. Burial of cremated remains will be 1 p.m., Friday, March 22nd, at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warriors Foundation in loving memory of Reynold.
