Gwendolyn J. Hill

Gwen passed away on Sunday, October 10th at Trinity Center at Luther Park after 5 years of struggling with dementia.

Gwen was born on May 17, 1945 to Dallas and Helen Burton. She attended North High School in Des Moines, graduating in 1963. She married Sam Dings and together they had four children.

She was a member of St. Mary’s of Nazareth Catholic Church in DSM, Iowa. She worked for the State of Iowa (driver’s license) Division on and off for many years and retiring in 2007.

She then married Thomas Hill in 1993 who passed away in 2017.

Gwen’s children and grandchildren were the highlight of her life; spending as much time as she could with them. Family was a big thing with her as she always had the grandkids spending the night.

She is predeceased by her parents, her husband, her brother Larry Burton, her son Jonathan, Sr, and granddaughter Ashli.

Gwen is survived by her two sons Lonnie V. (Kasey) Dings and Nick J. Dings; one daughter Jennifer H. (Brad) Ruden; 12 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Friday, October 22, 2021, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave. in Des Moines, with visitation held one hour prior to service time. Burial will follow the service at Avon Cemetery.
