It is very surreal knowing Paul is not in this world anymore. My memories of him and my time working at Greenbriar are bigger than life right now. I was blessed and honored to have had the opportunity to work for and to know him. I live my life today with many of the things I learned from him. Thanks for giving me my "Greenbriar family" and for all the memories I will have forever. It was truly a blast and some of the best times of my life. You will never be forgotten.

Paul will be greatly missed. We considered him family. We spent many years in vegas
together celebrating the Super-bowl and Gregg's birthday. Went on plenty of Harley adventure
rides across the states.......and let me tell you, they were always an adventure! ;-)
You never knew when you were going to run into Paul, but you did know whenever you did, it was going to be a fun time! He loved life and being with his family and friends. He always treated us with the utmost respect and made every woman feel special! His businesses were successful because he not only was a smart business man but because he alawys treated everyone with kindness and respect. I worked for Paul in 1977 at Court Avenue Station. I was a carefree 21 year old and decided to take a trip to the US Virgin Islands. Paul graciously gave me a pay check advance, and that was about the only way I could have gone. That is one memory that has always stuck with me. His generosity.
My deepest sympathy to his entire family

So sorry for your great loss!..I find myself reliving many feelings and thoughts today....Paul, I know, will be greatly missed by all of you...we all can recall times with that big man who had the great gift of telling stories and making all laugh (today, I have replayed many great times in the company of Paul and Suzanne)....I hope he and Darrell find each other again, make amends, and share the joy that both had for life and living on the edge! My thoughts and prayers are with all of you...keep your memories flowing and hold each other tight...
"And now I'm glad I didn't know the way it all would end. The way it all would go. Our lives are better left to chance. I could have missed the pain, but I'd of had to miss the dance."
Love,
Kristi

To Paul's family and friends who loved him.
I am so sorry to hear of Paul's death. It is hard to imagine a world without him in it creating an environment for the rest of us to enjoy!
Paul had such wonderful energy, stirred things up wherever he went, kept us laughing, told stories, and let us live vicariously through his adventures.
He was such a gracious and generous host whenever we visited his restaurants.
I knew Paul here in Waterloo as a friend and through his restaurant, Brinkley's Landing, by the Cedar river. Shared some time on the Mississippi River with him as well.
Sharing a grand toast to his life and his time with us, and love to all of you who have lost his presence in your lives.

We are saddened to learn of our long-time friend's sudden passing.
Paul was a loyal friend and Des Moines Rugby Club teammate who always could be counted on to be there in support in good times and in bad and in victory and defeat. Paul's success as a Des Moines restauranteur has seldom been matched over the years. Paul's word was golden and his energy was unlimited. He will be missed. Our condolences to the Trostel family.

Colorado mountain of a man,
who had many a fan.
As his time here ends,
he leaves many friends.
He led his life in overdrive,
at a torrid pace, hard to survive.
Not knowing an other way,
he was full speed ahead till the final day.
Rest in peace good buddy

Our sincere condolences to the entire Trostel Family and Suzanne. I certainly enjoy knowing Paul over the years and his timeless stories. I especially enjoyed playing a little Blackjack with him and the conversations that went along with the game. He certainly loved his family, friends and business and would have done anything for anyone at anytime. We will surely be missed!
