Richard Orland Noyes, 76, passed away on Thursday, October 27, 2016, at Mercy Hospice in Johnston after a year-long battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his family.

Richard was born on May 20th, 1940 in Des Moines, Iowa, the son of Dick and Margaret (Orland) Noyes. He graduated from North High School in 1958 and enlisted in the United States Army. He served in Germany between the Korean and Vietnam Wars and briefly in the Iowa Air National Guard.

In 1964, he married the love of his life, Lois. Together they had three children and eight grandchildren. Richard worked for the Northwestern Bell Telephone Company for 38 years. He loved spending time outside, riding his bicycle and taking walks with his dog. He loved listening to music in his backyard and traveling all over the world. He was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather. Everyone who knew Richard will miss his kindness, his infectious positive attitude, and his loving spirit.

So much appreciation is given to the staffs at Mercy Hospice and Mercy Hospital, and to countless others who have comforted Richard and his family in the last year.

He is survived by his wife, Lois of Des Moines; brother, Charles (Nancy) of Cumming; son, Rick (Carol) of Urbandale; two daughters, Kris (Mark) of Denver and Chantel (Shawn) of Johnston; eight grandchildren, Jacob, Alexandria, Noah, Gage, Danielle, Gabrielle, Nyah, and Simon. He was preceded in death by his parents, Margaret and Dick and an infant sister, Linda.

There will be no public services held. The family will celebrate Richard’s life privately. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the ARL. Condolences may be expressed at www.HamiltonsFuneralHome.com.
