October 27, 2016
Richard Orland Noyes, 76, passed away on Thursday, October 27, 2016, at Mercy Hospice in Johnston after a year-long battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his family.
Richard was born on May 20th, 1940 in Des Moines, Iowa, the son of Dick and Margaret (Orland) Noyes. He graduated from North High School in 1958 and enlisted in the United States Army. He served in Germany between the Korean and Vietnam Wars and briefly in the Iowa Air National Guard.
In 1964, he married the love of his life, Lois. Together they had three children and eight grandchildren. Richard worked for the Northwestern Bell Telephone Company for 38 years. He loved spending time outside, riding his bicycle and taking walks with his dog. He loved listening to music in his backyard and traveling all over the world. He was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather. Everyone who knew Richard will miss his kindness, his infectious positive attitude, and his loving spirit.
So much appreciation is given to the staffs at Mercy Hospice and Mercy Hospital, and to countless others who have comforted Richard and his family in the last year.
He is survived by his wife, Lois of Des Moines; brother, Charles (Nancy) of Cumming; son, Rick (Carol) of Urbandale; two daughters, Kris (Mark) of Denver and Chantel (Shawn) of Johnston; eight grandchildren, Jacob, Alexandria, Noah, Gage, Danielle, Gabrielle, Nyah, and Simon. Some days back, a clear image of Dick and Lois filled my spirit. I interpreted the experience to mean that I needed to contact them. A couple of days later, Joan Woods tagged me on Facebook. The post contained Dick's obituary.Tears flowed uncontrollably, as I thought about the tremendous lost to Lois Lois and the beautiful Noyes family.
Dick was such a unique and special person. He had a keen intellect, a devious sense of humor, a passion for the spoken word.( He did love to talk!) Dick was an integral part of my crew, who spoke his mind with conviction, but was still respectful.
Dick"s love for Lois was deep and true. The two of them worked harmoniously and in sync. Of course he loved his son and daughter, and he always spoke proudly of their talents and accomplishments.Dick also spoke loving of his parents and his brother. Family was so important to him.
Of course the grandchildren had a special place in Dick's heart. Whenever they visited him on the 4th floor, Dick's eyes would sparkle with delight, and the grands viewed him in the same manner.
I am grateful that Dick that God blessed me by placing Dick, Lois and family in my life.
May God Bless and Keep you..

I knew Dick when we were in North High together and for about two years after. We had many great adventures together and I would be glad to share some of those stories with his family if they want. 515 965 2940

I'm terribly sorry for your loss. There aren't words to descirbe how much I thought of Dick. Such a great guy and always willing to help me when I worked with him. He had lots of stories to tell and all usually ended with his lopsided grin. I thank him for all the good laughs. My heart hurts for all of you.
