Leland Ogren, Jr.
September 13, 2011
Leland C. Ogren, Jr., 74, was born June 30, 1937, in Des Moines, the son of Leland, Sr., and Clarice (Backstrom) Ogren. He passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, September 13, 2011, at his home.
Lee graduated from Lincoln High School and was proud of being a lifelong “true southsider.” He was an Army Veteran and a member of Local 234 Operating Engineers. Lee retired after 38 years of faithful service to the city of Des Moines as a heavy equipment operator. He enjoyed tinkering in his garage with old cars, leisurely Sunday drives, working in his garden and riding his Harley. Above all else, he loved spending time with his beloved grandchildren and supporting them throughout their many activities. The happiest moments of his life were spent at the ball fields cheering on his granddaughter, Daniele, and being with his “softball family,” as well as being his grandson Nicholas’s biggest fan as he enjoyed watching him perform at many dance competitions.
Lee’s memory will be cherished by his loving wife of 53 years, Harriet Ogren; son, Robert (Melanie) Ogren; grandchildren, Daniele Marie and Nicholas Leland; sister, Nancy (William) Kieler; numerous nieces and nephews; other loving relatives and many wonderful friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.
The family will greet friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, September 19, 2011, at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, September 20, 2011, at the funeral home, with burial to follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be directed to Bloomfield United Methodist Church, 5930 Indianola Avenue, Des Moines, Iowa 50320, in loving memory of Lee.

Although he's been called to serve his master early, he will live forever in your hearts and in the loved ones he left behind. Believing that you will again see him someday with love. Celebrate the life he had and the person he was. May God Bless each of you.. My thoughts are with you now and for the road ahead of you .. Memories of wonderful times, love and many happy baseball games.. May you and your family know I feel very much at this time for your loss. Charlotte
