Don-
I don't know if you remember me, I was both Brandon and Shawneca's counselor at North High School. We met several times while Brandon was a student. I was greatly saddened to hear that Brandon died in such a tragic accident. I remember Brandon as a very nice, polite and kind young man. He was always a pleasure to work with and I am truly sorry for his loss. How sad that he leaves a young wife and family behind. You were always very supportive of Brandon while at North. Please accept my sincerest condolences.

I will lend you, for a little time,
A child of mine, He said.
For you to love the while he lives,
And mourn for when he's dead.
It may be six or seven years,
Or twenty-two or three.
But will you, till I call him back,
Take care of him for Me?
He'll bring his charms to gladden you,
And should his stay be brief.
You'll have his lovely memories,
As solace for your grief.
I cannot promise he will stay,
Since all from earth return.
But there are lessons taught down there,
I want this child to learn.
I've looked the wide world over,
In search for teachers true.
And from the throngs that crowd life's lanes,
I have selected you.
Now will you give him all your love,
Nor think the labour vain.
Nor hate me when I come
To take him home again?
I fancied that I heard them say,
'Dear Lord, Thy will be done!'
For all the joys Thy child shall bring,
The risk of grief we'll run.
We'll shelter him with tenderness,
We'll love him while we may,
And for the happiness we've known,
Forever grateful stay.
But should the angels call for him,
Much sooner than we've planned.
We'll brave the bitter grief that comes,
And try to understand

We were travelling on I-35 at the time of the accident and were backed up in the traffic while the emergency workers responded. We prayed and prayed everyone was safe. We were saddened to see someone was not. Our sympathies and prayers go out to all of your family during this time of loss. Though we do not know you and we will never meet, please know that complete strangers lifted up Brandon, (then unnamed to us) in prayer at that time. We will continue to pray for all of you. We are saddened by your loss and felt it important to put a name and face, Brandon's name and face, to this tragedy and express our condolences to you. May you know that many many people are lifting you up during your time of sorrow. Mark and Lisa Lane, Waterloo, Iowa
