Dear Carl,
I am so sad to read of Betty's death. You and she were the best neighbors I have ever had, you were always so kind to me. That house on Twana was the first house I ever owned and I had no clue what I was doing. I remember Betty used to send over her delicious potato salad with the yummy cheese in it, and always asked how my dog Pearl was doing, she loved Pearl's name. She always made me laugh when she talked about "senior moments". She always told me that you loved my chocolate chip cookies so I gave her the recipe but she said they never turned out as well. I know she was a far better cook than me but when she said that it made me feel special! I remember going out to shovel our sidewalk and long driveway after a heavy snow. Betty opened her front door and told me to "get back inside, Carl will use the snowblower!" When I started to protest she said "it's too cold out here - get inside, now you mind me!" She was so sweet, kind, and funny and you were both so wonderful to me, and I am so very sorry for your loss.

I always enjoyed Betty's "words of wisdom" and her dry wit when I sat next to her in the choir at Grandview. I'm looking forward to seeing her again someday.

We were sad and yet rejoiced to hear that Betty was promoted to Glory. I will always remember the smiles and laughter of sitting next to Betty in the church choir or talking with her before the church service began or after it ended. Carl and Betty have prayed daily for us for many years. Their testimony of love for the Lord continues to impact the lives of many people, including us. Because we are missionaries in Portugal, we were unable to attend the funeral service. We are praying for Carl and for the rest of Betty's family and friends at this time of loss.

Dear precious friends,
Betty referred to herself as my "Iowa Mom" and that she certainly was to me.
I sure wish I could be there. The special memories keep coming back. Heaven will be a sweeter reality now. Carl please know I am praying for you. Mike thank you so very much for calling me. Although the years and distance have separated us all you still make me feel like family.
Mother and I extend our deepest sympatny. Again, I sure wish I could be with you on Saturday. Carl, I promise I will stay in touch.
Love,
Joy
