“LET ME LIVE IN THE HOUSE BY THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND BE A FRIEND TO MAN”
This was Chuck Provow’s motto, who passed away on January 30, 2012.
Chuck was the youngest child of three born to Celia and Herlie Provow on March 27, 1927, in Climax, Iowa. July 31, 1949, he married (Donna) Joan Clark from Stanley, Iowa, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. He was an active member of Ivy Centennial Methodist Church. Chuck and Jo raised their four children in Des Moines, Iowa.
He loved to fish, camp, garden, and travel. They were a busy family and had many good times together.
Chuck was employed for 38 years by Frye Copy Systems. He also worked for Broadlawns Hospital and was a volunteer for Hospice of Central Iowa for five years.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Jo; four children, Steve (Sharon), Sally (Steven Nakamura), Shirley (Tim McEntee), Scott (Leslie); brother, Douglas (Ruth) Provow; sister, Alice (Leo) Van Fosson; seven grandchildren; five great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, and other extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents, and daughter-in-law, Sharon.
The family would like to thank everyone for their love and kindness at this difficult time.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 am, Wednesday, February 1, 2012, at the Hamilton’s Altoona Funeral Home, 105 4th Street SW in Altoona. Burial will follow at Rising Sun Cemetery. Visitation will occur from 5-7 pm Tuesday evening, at the funeral home.

Dear Family of Charles:
Though I only know Sally really well, I had the pleasure of meeting both Charles and his wife several times when they would come to visit here in San Diego. What a nice man, and so caring. He has left quite a legacy through his caring daughter, and her siblings.
He will be missed by those who loved him.

Hi Aunt Jo,
I'm so sorry to hear about Uncle Charles. I know you were both still in love after all these years and I am holding you and my cousins in my thoughts and prayers. I'm sure he is now not suffering and in a safe and loving place. It is just hard on us who are left behind.
Love you.

I have such fond memories of our holidays and camping trips together! What a wonderful family I was born into and Steve married into! Uncle Charles was so patient at teaching 10 point pitch and pulling kids to the top of Capitol hill for sledding. I loved the smell of his pipe. The movies he shot are hilarious and precious. We're gonna miss him SO much! Our thoughts and prayers go out to you. May you remember all the good times.

Jo and family,
Hearing that Chuck passed makes me so sad, but we know he'll be growing a garden in Heaven. We'll miss seeing Chuck out back in his garden and we'll miss getting a phone call to meet him at the back fence because he has a big bag of apples or tomatoes for us.
We love you and if you need anything, please let us know, Jo.
