Steven Riley Crawford

Steven Riley Crawford, 62, passed away at Kavanagh House on May 18, 2014. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 21 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines. Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 22 at 10:00 a.m. at Lutheran Church of Hope, 925 Jordan Creek Parkway in West Des Moines. Burial will be at Glendale Cemetery.
Steven was born on April 13, 1952 to Betty (Brown) and Joe Crawford in Cedar Rapids, IA. He graduated from Iowa State University. Steve married Patricia Gennoe and the couple raised their family in Grinnell. Steven worked for Grinnell Mutual Reinsurance Company for 35 years, as CEO, COO, and was the 7th President, until his retirement in 2012. He was a designated CPCU and ARE.
Steven was very active and enjoyed numerous hobbies and organizations. He was a member of Lutheran Church of Hope, Grinnell United Methodist Church, Cyclone Club, and Delta Tau Delta Fraternity at Iowa State. He enjoyed traveling, downhill skiing, golf, bowling, boating, Cyclone sports, and spending time with family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Pat; children, Matt (Julia Lange) Crawford, Joe (Rachel) Crawford, and Steffanie (R.J.) Sumrall; grandchildren, Mckinley Crawford, Alana Crawford, and Jackson Sumrall; his sister, Ellen Mullen; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Steven was preceded in death by his Mom and Dad.

Pat and family, our heartfelt sympathy at your great loss. Steve was a terrific guy. We all had severals fun years of skiing with the Peoria Ski club and many of us have remained friends through the years. Will always remember your hospitality at the lake on our way to Iowa State. I'm so sorry to lose a Delt brother. I hadn't stayed close, but have good memories of our time together at the house at 2121 Sunset Dr. I am sorry for the loss to all his family and friends.
