Walter Boatwright

Walter R. Boatwright, 80, passed away Monday, July 14, 2014 at his home in Van Meter.
Walter was born March 29, 1934 in Des Moines, Iowa. He was the son of Manuel and Odessa (Dawson) Quinnett. He was a member of New Covenant Church of God, enjoyed word search puzzles and his dog. Walter proudly served his country in the Army. He owned Boney’s Bar and Grill in Peru, IA and retired from Armstrong after over 30 years as a tire builder.
Walter is survived by his children, Betty (Tom) McGaffey, Barb Watkins, Matthew (Beth) Boatwright, and Kelly Boatwright; grandchildren, Heather Wesenberg, Erick Dowler, Duke Dowler, Austin (Christian) Watkins, Anthony (Crystal) Watkins, Kenneth (Larkin) Boatwright, Chelsie (Anthony) Cunningham, Tricia Boatwright, Mikayla (Michael) Nixt, Justin McGaffey, and John McGaffey; great-grandchildren, Scott and Alex Wesenberg, Matt and Vada McGaffey, Selena and Anthony McGaffey, Vincent Watkins, Owen Allen, Sienna and Liam Boatwright, Ian Cunningham, Michael Mason, and Lily Nixt; sisters, Odessa (John) Westlake, Katherine Hartfield, and Neva (Gene) Coughran; and many nieces, nephews and beloved friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary Ellen Boatwright; grandson, Jonathan McVay; two brothers; and five sisters.
Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 16, 2014 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 17, also at the funeral home. Burial will take place at 12:30 p.m. Thursday at Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter.

I met a few times at Chelsie's and he was funny and very kind. He loved his family very much yo could see it in his eyes I feel honored just to get to meet someone so kind and caring. Go bless the family!!!
