Jeffrey Heller
January 05, 2015
Jeffrey John Heller, 41, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family January 5, 2015 after a strong fight with cancer.
Jeff was born December 11, 1973, in Des Moines, Iowa, to John and Dawn (Martin) Heller. He had the most vibrant and outgoing personality; truly touching the lives of everyone he met. He was a bright star and dedicated employee to all patients and co-workers who had the pleasure of his warm welcome at East Village Chiropractic where he worked for the past 8 1/2 years.
Jeff was an avid New York Yankee and Duke University fan. Jeff’s love and appreciation for baseball (and basketball) proved to leave a lasting impression on hundreds of kids, and parents alike. His passion, spirit, and loyalty to those he coached was felt by many. You couldn’t miss Jeff at any sporting event without hearing his encouragement and drive for the boys he loved to coach, including taking his Grandview Little League boys to the state finals for the Little League World Series. His passion for youth sports, his dedication to every child coached, was just a small piece of his sparkling personality.
Jeff was diagnosed with cancer in August of 2014. He had an abundance of support and love during this time and never stopped being positive. He was loved by so many and the non-stop love of family, friends, his husband Jason, and his beloved American Bulldog, Duke kept him full of sugar, sunshine, and vibrant until the very end.
Jeffrey is survived by his husband, Jason Green; sons, Christopher, Ryan and Edward Green; mother, Dawn Heller; sister, Thana Heller; uncle, Dennis (Deb) Martin of Lincoln, NE; aunt, Janice Shannon (Heller); as well as many family, friends, and little champions throughout the Des Moines metro. He was preceded in death by his father, John W. Heller as well as his maternal and paternal grandparents.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, January 8, 2015 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 9, also at Hamilton’s. Cremation will follow.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the family to be distributed for lymphoma research.

I can remember about 30 years ago staying the night at your house after a baseball game. I can't believe that 30 years have gone by already, and can't believe you are gone. May you rest in paradise my friend.

Met Jeff at East Village Chiropractic where my daughter receives treatment. Jeff was always full of smiles and energy. His matching scrubs and tennis shoes. He had a way of communicating with children and adults. He will be greatly missed. Peace be with all of you his family and friends and of course with Jeff.

Dawn and Thana so sorry for your loss. The Salvation Army Center and Grandview Little League will never be the same but Jeff's legacy will always be there. His passion and compassion for all those he coached, he cared for and stood up for will be hard to match, He was one you definitely wanted on your side at work or play. Our prayers are with you.

Dawn, so sorry for your loss. My daughter, Sarah Pertzborn Powell, told me about Jeff today. They were classmates @ Dowling. By reading his obituary it sounds like he was a very wonderful young man! Take care- Judy

Today I say goodbye to an old dear friend. Though time has passed and miles have separated us, your friendship and the memories will never be forgotten. Your fight with cancer was courageous, inspiring and motivating. Your legacy lives with all of us. To live our lives with a little more love, a little more passion, a little more fun and many more smiles. Watch over us my friend.

Watch over your family my friend. I know you are singing and smiling down! I have never met a man with so much spunk, laughter, infectious smile and so fun to be around. No matter how your day was going you made everyone person feel individual and that we were the only one you called "sugar." You will be so missed! PS...I am going to miss Heller's dating service always trying to help me with the hook up when I was too scared to say hi to someone! That's our little secret. LOL Love to your family!

I didn't know Jeff was sick, and remember him from the Chiropractic Clinic. What a shock - he was really a bright star and so great to see when I went there. He will be missed greatly.

For years, you were like my brother. You and Donnie, watching over me and "showing me the way". You were loved by so many and the "sugar" which made our lives so sweet. I'll never forget you friend and believe me, you left a legacy that no one could forget. Fly high my brother. May God bless your soul and may you always watch over your family.
