Weldon Brown, Jr.
February 07, 2015
Weldon S. Brown, Jr. was born November 8, 1933 to Weldon and Luella Brown in Parsons, Kansas. After serving in the United States Army, he married Marilyn Kieser in Abbotsford, Wisconsin in 1959, and they moved to Mason City, Iowa in 1963. In Mason City, Weldon worked as a furniture salesman and later sold life insurance and annuities for many years. He married Jo Billick in the Little Brown Church in 1982, and they subsequently moved to Des Moines. Weldon Smith Brown, Jr., 81, passed away Saturday, February 7, 2015, at Mercy Medical Center.
The most important thing in life to Weldon was his family, and especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, for whom he would do anything. His happiest times were spent visiting with his kids and their families. He loved to travel with his wife Jo, whether taking the slow route to see the vast United States in their motorhome, or flying to Puerto Rico nearly every year to enjoy the tropical beaches. Cooking was another of Weldon's favorite activities, and he would always provide a welcome with food for any guests. Steaks on the grill were a particular favorite, along with the hottest, spiciest side dishes imaginable, sometimes with peppers from his garden. Weldon's garden was also something that he took pride in, offering tomatoes to anyone asking, and making the rest into sauce or salsa. At home in his spare time, Weldon would likely be found watching movies, usually documentaries, crime stories, and westerns, but especially comedies when his infectious laugh would fill the room.
Weldon is survived by his wife, Jo Brown; children, Randy (Sarah) Brown and Sheri Heiny (Anthony Gilbert); and their mother, Marilyn Brown; grandchildren Evan and Ian Brown; Miranda Brown, Danika and Daeden Heiny and their father, Dan Heiny; great-grandchildren, Kimberlyn and Dracen; siblings, Tom (Dixie) Brown, Betty Abrams, and Dick (Nancy) Brown; and a host of extended family and friends.
He was preceeded in death by his parents and his brother Bill.
Weldon's smile, humor, and outgoing nature will be truly missed.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, February 11, 2015 at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street.
