David Shipp

David Howard Shipp entered into the loving arms of Jesus on Wednesday, February 18, 2015 At HCI Bright Kavanagh House. David was born on March 28, 1957 to Marlyn (Howard) and Jim Shipp in Waverly, Iowa.
In his younger years, he loved participating in motor-cross racing and achieved many trophies. David served his country proudly in the U.S. Marines after high school. He worked for many years as a lineman most recently at Mid-American Energy in Des Moines. David enjoyed all things cars – classical, remote control and NASCAR. He was a gun enthusiast. He loved the American Bald Eagle and will be remembered for being a man of faith. He loved his family and will be missed greatly.
David is survived by his loving wife, Bernita; his daughter, Amber Shipp; father, Jim (Marilyn) Shipp; step-children, Mathew (Angel) Lisk and Mendy (Lynton) Jeffrey; grandchildren, Cheyne, Sawyer, Dakota, Destiny, Kailee, Raymond, Austin and Tucker; great-grandchildren, Layla and Neveah; brother, Rocky (Darlene) Shipp; nephews, Mitchell, Elliott and Scott Shipp; and other family and beloved friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Marlyn and his son, Benjamin Shipp.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, February 23, 2015 at Faith Independent Assembly of God, 6001 SW 14th Street in Des Moines. He will be laid to rest at Willow Lawn Cemetery in Plainfield, Iowa. Family will greet friends from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 23 at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the American Cancer Society in memory of David.

I've got a lot of respect for Dave and I always will. He was his own man and he showed it. I'm so sorry for your loss. I'm lucky our paths crossed in this life and I won't forget him.

You have my deepest sympathy. Although through the years we lost touch with each other, I will always remember the days I spent as a child playing, skiing and enjoying our time together. I will keep the entire Shipp family in my prayers.

Bert, I'm sorry to hear about losing Dave. He was a good friend from the first day I met him. Keep your chin up , I know your gonna miss him the most. I worked with him alot, and he loved his wife and kids. And made sure he was being the best husband and father he could. they don't make 'em like that anymore. take care, and I'm sure you can call any of us lineman if there's anything we can do!
