Ernest "Bud" Matheny

Ernest “Bud” Matheny, 80, passed away on April 26, 2015, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa. He was born in Des Moines on March 18, 1935, to Ernest and Pearl Matheny.
Bud was a lifelong resident of Des Moines. He was united in marriage to Patsy Mohr on May 12, 1956. At the age of 27, he worked for Borden as a milk man, delivering milk in the old milk crates. At 28 years old, he went to work for Bridgestone Firestone as a firwood grinder, and later retired after 30 years of dedicated service.
Bud enjoyed going to Las Vegas and was known as a lucky gambler. He also enjoyed playing golf, traveling to Florida, and taking trips to the ocean. Above all, he was a great man and the best grandpa to his four grandsons.
Bud is survived by his wife of 58 years, Pat; sons, Doug (Julie) Matheny, Randy Matheny, and Mike (Sue) Matheny; grandsons, Brian (Alison) Matheny, Marc Matheny, Andrew Matheny, and Tony Matheny; brother, William (Lois) Matheny; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family, and countless friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Richard and Robert Matheny.
A memorial gathering will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, April 30, 2015, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue in Des Moines.

Prayers and love to you all during this time. From the first day I met you all, you immediately excepted me and my children as part of your own family .. There are countless memories throughout the years. Bud was an important part of our life and will forever be missed.

I am so sorry for your family's loss. I have so many fond memories of Bud and the band. He was such a great and important support in a part of my life that I will always cherish.
