Jackie, Troy, Kim and extended family... I'm so sorry to have heard of Dave's passing. Loss is never easy. Take time to grieve. From going through it myself the past few years with losing my mom, dad & father in law, you'll find it takes a lot of time. The pain never goes away, but it lessons as that time goes by. Dave will always be around - you'll know. Just watch for those signs. :) Please know that I'm thinking of each of you and sending you each so much LOVE and hugs.

I didn't know Mr. Shafer, but for some reason, I was placed at the accident scene to call the first responders. My only thought at the time, and still, is that of his family and friends. My deepest sympathy and condolences to all who knew Mr. Shafer.

Troy, Les and I wish to express our deepest sympathy to you and your family. Dave was a handful, but we had so much fun with him. Over the years, we have been provided with important information about our boat by you and your father. May he rest in peace.

My dad and I went to Dave back in the late 70s with an engine problem no one else could figure out.We were at our witts end.It took Dave 5 minutes of asking us questions to solve.Bought all my hard to find FE parts through him after that.I always trusted his opinion. They don't make them like Dave any more.......

In 1970 I had a problem with Ralph Zarnow's 1958 75hp Evinrude, Dave taught me my first "Sync and Link" on that motor, ran great after my lesson, we have been great friends ever since. When my Mother, Carolyn, and I owned Birdland Marine, Dave would come down on Sundays with his little white poodle and sit on the pick nick table and talk to my Mom and my brothers and watch the boats go by on the Des Moines River. I think Dave and my Mom are sitting at that same table watching the boats go by. Thanks for the lessons Dave!

This is one of the hardest things that I've ever had to do. Saying good bye to my him, my best friend, is almost overwhelming. It's beyond words. My memories of the times that Dave, Troy, and myself had while going racing and working in the shop with Dave at his startup in his old shop, are my best memories. He taught me so much. What a friend. There is so much more that I would like to say about him but no one could print a novel of that size. I'll miss him so much. I wish Jackie, Troy, Kim, and the families the very deepest condolences. You are truly in my prayers daily.
