Jerry Dilks, of Carlisle, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 31, 2015 at the VA Hospital after a short stay.
Jerry was born on New Year ’s Day in 1935 to Bill and Marie Dilks in Carlisle. He proudly served his country as a Paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division of the U.S. Army.
Jerry enjoyed watching Iowa State football, basketball- especially Atlanta Braves baseball and playing slots on the computer. He loved FORD vehicles and his current pets, Gabrielle, Spook and Heidi. Jerry also enjoyed woodworking, model trains, golfing, bowling, camping and smoking cigars.
Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Ramona; his children, Bryan (Kay), Karl (Jacque), Denise (Blake), Kevin (Jana), Jeff, Debbie Lovelace, Kevin Jameson (Fay); grandchildren, Brenda (Sam), Christina, Dustin, Chris, Jimmy, Shauna (David), Sara (Adam), Lauryn, Tierra, Charlee, Cheyenne, Cassidy, Shawn, Dakota, Marjorie, Gabriel, Kyle, Blake, Klara, Karly, Keefer and Olivia; great-grandchildren, Shane, Kaleb, Savannah, Owen, Gavin, Tegan, Eddie, Kyle, Hazel, Ella and Owen; his sisters, Margaret(Bill), Martha(Bob), Billie(Don), Joyce(Rick), Sandy(Hubert)and other loving family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother Robert; his son and daughter-in-law, Terry (Lisa) and his granddaughter, Brandy.
Funeral services will be held at noon on Tuesday, September 8, 2015 Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until noon at the funeral home. He will be laid to rest at 2:00 p.m. at Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter, Iowa.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Animal Rescue League.
