Gerald Jacobs

Gerald Jacobs, 84, passed away Thursday, October 8, 2015 from cancer. He was born March 16, 1931 in Ringstead, Iowa to Myrtle and Glen Jacobs and grew up in Newton, Iowa. He served in the Navy aboard the USS Everglades during the Korean War.
He was proud to have worked at Lockheed Aerospace on NASA’s Gemini Project. He also worked for Meredith and Donnelly Corporations and was an instructor at DMACC.
Gerald is survived by his daughter, Cindy (John) Bender of Marion, IA; sons, Michael (Sharon) and Gerald Jacobs of Des Moines; 5 grandchildren, Rodney Pieres, Ryan Bender, Danielle Wallace, and Megan and Staci Jacobs; 7 great-grandchildren, Jade and Rosemary Hall, Jacob Pieres, Marley and Mila Bender, and Rylie and Harper Hanson; and brother, Harold “Bud” Jacobs.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Mary E. Jacobs, his parents, an infant son and two infant daughters, sister, Zelda and brother, Gayle.
Services will be held Saturday, October 10, 2015 at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th St., Des Moines. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., with funeral services to begin at 12:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Glendale Cemetery.

We love you all very much. It is so sad to hear of Uncle Gerald's passing. Our hearts are there with you always. I truly miss the times we had growing up.

God Bless the family, you have our prayers and sympathy. Gerald and Ken served on the USS Everglades together. We enjoyed the Navy Reunions with Gerald and Mary. So many good warm memories. He was a wonderful and decent man who we will miss very much.
