Daryl L. Turner

Daryl L. Turner passed away on February 3, 2016, at the VA CLC in Des Moines, IA. He was born May 28, 1930 in Sheldon, IA.
Daryl is survived by his wife of 63 years, Irene; children, Becky Patton-Quigley, Kathy Turner and Jim Turner, daughter in law Jeanne; 3 grandchildren, Ron Patton, Katie Turner, and Samantha Turner; 2 great grandchildren, Molly Patton and Erich Patton.
Daryl worked as a project lead for installation and support of electronic control systems in the gas and oil industry. He loved the challenges of electrical engineering and was a pioneer with technology development. He also served as a technical advisor for the St. Cloud technical college and expert witness with the Nebraska courts. He was a senior member of the Instrument Society of America.
Daryl was a staff sergeant in the Air Force during the Korean conflict, spending most of his service time in Korea and Japan. He was a member of the American Legion Post 145 for 62 years. He also was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans.
Friends and family remember him as kind man that worked hard to provide a wonderful life for his family. He was a great singer of gospel music and shared his faith by sharing his CDs. We are blessed to have the music CDs to remember that great voice and the joy in his smile as he shared his music.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 8, 2016, at Ankeny First United Methodist Church, 206 SW Walnut Street in Ankeny, IA, with visitation beginning one hour prior to service time.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the family or to the Veterans Administration Central Iowa Health System Community Living Center in loving memory of Daryl.

I was so sad to hear of Daryls passing. I so enjoyed talking with him. From the 1st day I met him sitting on my patio with Mary and Katie to chatting at pulmonary rehab. He was a great man thet loved his family so much. Prayers and hugs to all of you!

Becky and her family are in my thoughts and prayers. Your father was especially nice to me when I was around him. Your mother will be in good hands with her family. Now, Daryl is a special Angel to look over all of you. Don't forget all the great memories in which you shared with him. Love you all!!!

My condolences to all the family. I'll always remember Daryl as a kind and well spoken man and by his wonderful deep bass voice that I always admired. My Dad called him Chops. I never knew why but I will always remember him by that name. God bless
