Kenneth “KP” Zell Payton, 61, passed away peacefully Thursday, February 4, 2016 at his home, surrounded by family.
Kenneth was born June 1, 1954 in Eupora, Mississippi to Leonard and Lurine Payton. He was a family oriented man, always putting his family first. He was a very giving person. He loved hosting barbeques and cooking and often helped others with snow removal. He also enjoyed fishing, listening to music, and being outdoors. He loved his dogs, Molly and Demon, who he considered family. Kenneth worked for the City of Des Moines for over 15 years. He spent the final years of his working career self-employed.
Kenneth is survived by his wife of 26 years, Debra; eight children; 23 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and his siblings, Allen Snuggs, Robert “Bobo” Payton, W.D. Payton, and Hazel Paden. He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers.
Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., with funeral service to begin at 1 p.m., Thursday February 11th at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Burial will take place at Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Animal Rescue League or to the American Cancer Society.
