Ronald L. Platt, 70, passed away Saturday, February 6, 2016 at University of Iowa Hospitals after a courageous battle with multiple myeloma.

Ron was born December 26, 1945 to Virgil and Mayme (Severide) Platt in Eldora, Iowa. He attended school in Plover, Iowa before moving to Des Moines. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. After returning to Des Moines, Ron met Bonnie Molacek. The couple was married on Valentine’s Day in 1976. He started in the bar business in 1989 and together with his wife and son owned Bourbon Street Bar & Grill for the past 19 years. Ron enjoyed playing cards with his buddies. Above all, he loved his grandbabies, they were his most prized possessions.

Ron is survived by his loving wife, Bonnie; son, R.J. (Kelli) Platt; daughter, Trina Platt Pile; grandchildren, Payton Sydney Platt, and Londyn Olivia Platt and Derek Platt; brother, Wayne (Janice) Platt; sister, Frances (Larry) Overturf; and a host of extended family and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his sister, Sharon Rench.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, February 11, 2016 at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service Thursday at the funeral home.
