Larry Thomas Lester, Sr., 66, died doing what he loved, driving truck, in Salinas, California on Saturday, May 21, 2016. He was born December 7, 1949 to Frank and Marian Lester in Webster City, Iowa.
Larry started driving truck when he was 21 years old and had been loving it ever since that first experience. He was a long time driver for Katana, Inc in Indianola. Larry was an avid Harley Davidson rider and watching old country/western movies. His greatest joy came from spending time with his children and their families.
Larry is survived by his children, Candy Marchant, Larry Thomas Lester Jr. (Tom), Carrie Lindberg, Dody Harrington, Jessie (Bobby) Berry, and Edward Knight; grandchildren, Britney, Cameron, Keisha, A.J., Matt, Gregg, Tyler, Brandie, Marissa, Alana, Daja, Anthony, and one on the way; great-grandchildren, Nevaeh, Carley, Liam, Za'Kyaah, and Alainah; life-long companion, Glenda Knight; brothers, Francis (Rose) Lester, Carroll (Cindy) Lester, Gerald (Diane) Lester, Frank (Robin) Lester, III, Robert (Judy) Lester, and Richard Lester; his work family at Katana, Inc.; and a host of other loving family and beloved friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; grandchildren, Kasiah Lester and Tom E. Lee Lester; great-grandson, Kian Thomas Lester-Madewell; sister, Helen Van Zandt; brothers, Clifford Lester and Vern Lester; and previous companion, Katherine Hussman.
Family will greet friends from 5 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, May 31, 2016 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street in Des Moines. A funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m., Wednesday, June 1, 2016 also at the funeral home.

Larry you touched so many lives with your loving and caring heart. You had a special way of always making people feel loved and accepted. I will always remember your smile and your laugh. We were trucking friends of larrys.He was a great guy.Would give you the shirt off his back.Was a great truck driver and friend he will be truly missed.Rest in peace .Love you man.
