June 30, 2016
Elisha Marguerite O’Bannon (Weesy) passed away on June 30, 2016 at the age of 44.
Elisha was born in Killeen, TX on October 23, 1971.
She graduated from Dowling Catholic High School in 1990 and went on to earn a Master’s in Social Work from the University of Iowa in May 2003. She worked at the VA Hospital as a Social Worker aiding Combat Veterans after returning home from service.
On May 3, 2008 Elisha married Ryan Vander Velden in Ankeny Iowa. Elisha enjoyed making decorations and crafts for her home, crocheting, making jewelry, leading children’s ministry and camps, playing with her twin boys Luke and Liam, and any of the many cousins whenever the opportunity arose. She also enjoyed helping other Moms of Multiples, volunteering for March of Dimes, and in her spare time going on dates with the love of her life - Ryan.
Elisha’s memory will live on through her husband of 8 years, Ryan; her twin boys, Luke and Liam; her mother, Linnea O’Bannon; sister, Mary (Dan) Rittel; brothers, John (Shana Drake) O’Bannon and Sean (Sarah) O’Bannon; and many loving nieces and nephews.
Elisha is being called home to our Father by her dad, John O’Bannon; her sister-in-law, Leslie O’Bannon; her grandparents, John and Rosemary O’Bannon and Raymond and Fran Hoffmeyer.
Services will be held at Grimes United Methodist Church, 801 W. 1st Street in Grimes, IA with visitation on Tuesday July 5, 2016 from 5 to 8 pm and the service on Wednesday July 6 at 11:00 am. We hope you can stay to chat, tell stories and maybe cry a little with us in celebration of an amazing woman.
If you choose, in lieu of flowers, memorials can be made out to the Luke and Liam College Trust Fund or the Grimes UMC Children's Ministry. Condolences for the family may be offered online at www.HamiltonsFuneralHome.com.

Tears keep flowing, loosing this wonderful lady has broken a piece of my heart. We have worked very closely for the last two and a half years and it will never be the same. You held the hands of so many of our young combat veterans at the VA and there is no way to fill your shoes. I feel I know each and everyone of your family members through our many heart to hearts. I hope all of us that we're blessed with knowing you can be as strong as you always were. Will miss you so much.

This is such shocking news. I knew and grew up with both Mary and Elisha during our high school years and spent many nights with their family during our silly sleepovers. Beautiful woman and beautiful family then and I'm sure now, as well. You will be loved and missed by your friends and family and in the thoughts of those of us who haven't seen you in many moons but thought of you and your family often.

I am heart broken to see Elisha has passed. I have fond memories working with her while she was at DHS. She was a wonderful woman who had compassion and grace for the families she worked with. Prayers and comfort for her twin boys, her husband and the rest of her family.
