Nicholas Christian Flater
March 18, 2017
Nicholas Christian Flater was 30 years old when he passed away on March 18, 2017. Nick came into this world, alongside his twin sister, on December 18, 1986 to his proud parents Jerry and Kris Flater. He was born in Des Moines, but he was a country boy at heart.
Growing up he attended South East Polk High School, graduating in 2005. After High School Nick served his country as a Marine, with a tour in Iraq. Nick was an apprentice at The Waldinger Corporation, and a member of Plumbers and Steamfitters Local 33. He had just recently moved to Winterset, where he found his dream home with a small acreage. Nick was an animal lover, he spent many years riding horses with his grandmother, but his constant companion was his dog, Bella.
Those surviving Nick are his parents; sister, Kate Flater; grandmother, Norma Kofmehl; many loving aunts and uncles; and a host of cousins, friends, and other family. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Chris and Josephine Flater, and Charles Kofmehl.

There is great emptiness left by Nick's passing. I am certain that the strength of the love that you and your family share for each other and for Nick will get you through this difficult time and may that love honor his memory and that you will cherish the time you had together.
