Of Altoona, Iowa
Rodger Short went home to join his mom and dad on March 16, 2018. He was born in Des Moines, Iowa at Lutheran Hospital the son of Roland Duane and Ruby Lee Short on January 23, 1949.
He was preceded in death by his mom, Ruby Lee Short; father, Roland Duane Short; sister, Elaine Short; and his maternal grandparents and paternal grandparents.
Rodger is survived by his wife, Lori Short; daughter, Renee Short; son, Rodger Lee Moran; grandchildren, Nick, Andrew, Ashlynn, Patrick, Samantha, and Todd Jr.; 4 great-grandchildren; brother, Frank Short (Janet); sister, Elanna Fultz (James); and numerous nieces and nephews.
Rodger was emitted in marriage with Lori Overton. They settled in Des Moines, Iowa where they made their home.
Rodger was raised in Iowa and graduated from Hoover High School. From a young age Rodger showed he had a great love for the outdoors, he enjoyed hunting trips with his father and brother and took many fishing trips to Canada with his parents, brother, daughter and nieces.
Rodger had a special talent in auto mechanics and made a career working in auto repair shops, even working with his brother. He enjoyed working on race cars and watching NASCAR racing on T.V. He was a huge supporter of the Kansas City Chiefs and could always be seen sporting red and yellow.
Rodger was a positive person who touched many lives. He will be greatly missed and forever loved by his family and friends.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, March 21, 2018 at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave., Des Moines. Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, March 22nd, also at the funeral home.
