Roderick McBlain, Jr.

Roderick McBlain, Jr., age 62, passed away Tuesday, December 7, 2021.

Rod was born October 24, 1959 in Des Moines, and remained a lifelong resident of the area. He graduated from East High School. Rod loved the races at the Fairgrounds and Knoxville. He was a tinkerer and a mechanic. Nothing ever stayed broken because Rod could fix anything. He was a concessionaire and worked in the family business all his life. Rod always had a great comeback and was the king of the one-liners. His greatest joy were his grandchildren and he loved spending time with them and watching over them.

He is survived by his daughter, Heather McBlain (Chris); son, Seth McBlain (Victoria); his grandchildren, Zachary Ewald, Audrina Wilhelm, Harmony Torres, Ava McBlain, Brayden McBlain, Lillie McBlain, and Harper McBlain; the mother of his children, Kellie McBlain; his sisters; and other extended family and friends.

Rod was preceded in death by his parents, Roderick Sr. and Carol McBlain; and his sister, Tracy Petty.

Funeral service will be 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, December 15, 2021 at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Visitation will be held for two hours prior to the funeral. There will be a lunch following at Benchwarmers, 705 S Ankeny Blvd, Ankeny.
