Service Details

Harold was born December 6, 1931 in Des Moines to his parents Harold Sandahl Sr. and Mildred (Daulton) Sandahl. He was united in marriage to Clara Jean Williams on December 21, 1953. From their union they had two beautiful children, Sheryl (Sheri) Mahnke and Harold (Sandy) Sandahl III.

He graduated from Des Moines Technical High School in 1950. Harold attended Drake, Grandview, and Iowa State. He was a Sergeant First Class in the United States Army and was awarded the Bronze Star Medal of Courage in the Korean War. He spent his adult life working as a Journeyman for the United Association of Plumbers and Steamfitters, Local 33 for 64 years. Harold retired from Taylor Industries Inc. as the Service Manager in 1996 after installing and servicing the refrigeration systems in many of the Hy-Vee, Dahls and grocery stores located throughout the Midwest.

Family and friends were Bud’s passion in life. If there was ever someone in need – Bud was there with his tools and a smile. He taught his children that family was first and important above all else. Bud taught them how to love unconditionally, how to honor and respect yourself and others. Always give a little more back than what you receive.

Harold is survived by his loving wife, Jean Sandahl; children, Sheryl Mahnke, Harold (Sherry) Sandahl; sister, Christine Hanson; seven grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Patricia (Robert) Anderson.
