Holly Nicole Peters, 44, died on May 12, 2023, at MercyOne Medical Center in Des Moines.

Holly was born on December 22, 1978 to Benjamin Ferrell and Janice (Devine) Peters. She grew up in Marshalltown, IA, and was a 1997 graduate of Marshalltown High School. She went on to earn degrees in Broadcast Technology from Marshalltown Community College in 1998 and Communication Studies/Electronic Media from the University of Northern Iowa in 2000. Following college graduation, she worked at 6 News WOWT in Omaha, NE, for a year before returning to Iowa where she worked at WOI TV in Des Moines from March 2001 to August 2008. She then started work at WHO 13 News Des Moines in September 2008, where she was a director at the time of her death.

Holly had a big heart. She loved her family, especially her nieces and nephews, and attended as many of their school and sporting events as possible. She was always happy to help and loved to joke and make others laugh. She enjoyed watching bad reality TV, Star Wars movies, various comedians, listening to podcasts, the band Green Day, and collecting all things Eeyore. She was loved by everyone around her, including her WHO family. She took great pride in her work as a director. She will be remembered for her kind smile, professionalism, and ability to remain calm in all situations.

Holly is survived by her father, Benjamin Ferrell (Mary) Peters of Palm Bay, FL; siblings, Benjamin Filip (Millie) Peters of Des Moines, IA, Kelly Braga of Radcliffe, IA, and Jennifer (Doug) Hazen of Stuart, IA; nieces and nephews, Brett, Avery, Cael, Tahlia, Elias, and Luciana Hazen, and Katelyn and Ian Braga; and her beloved cats, Stitch and Willow.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Janice Peters, sister, Lisa Peters, and brother-in-law, Greg Braga.

An open house Celebration of Life will be held from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 17th, 2023 at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines, IA 50266. No formal services will be held.

Interment is planned for a later date at Mt Olivet Cemetery Columbarium, Waterloo, Iowa.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the family in loving memory of Holly.
