Adelfa Gorriaran

Adelfa Gorriaran, 82, passed away Saturday, January 16, 2010 at Bright Kavanagh House in Des Moines, Iowa. Her body has been cremated, and a graveside service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, January 23, 2010 at Vista Memorial Gardens in Miami Lakes, Florida.

Adelfa was born February 11, 1927 in Cienfuegos, Cuba to Adelfa and Casimiro Canales. She worked as both a teacher and a social worker. She was an avid reader of Spanish literature, loved life, and especially loved spending time with her great granddaughters.

Adelfa is survived by her daughter, Lourdes (Sean) Stevenson; her sister, Dr. Cenaida Canales-Baez and family; her granddaughter, Ailin Abboud; her great-granddaughters, Monica Buffy Abboud, and Michaela Bodhi Abboud; her nephew, Dr. Octavio Carreño and family; her niece Dr. Teresa Carreño-Casariego and family; and many other loving family members and friends.
