Jim McKnight lost his long battle with cancer at 5:10 a.m. April 19, 2010 at Mercy Hospice in Johnston. 
Jim was a Paratrooper and on the frontlines in Korea where he received the Purple Heart. He retired from Armstrong Tire after 35 years of service. Jim also did custom baling and quit just three years ago. His love was horses and tractors and he had quite a few of both.
Jim is survived by his wife, Franky (Shineflew) McKnight; sons, Steve (Sue) and Dean (Debbie); grandchildren, Shannon (Chuck) Smith, Jamie (Matt) Keller, and Codie McKnight, great-grandchildren, Joshua and Logan; step-daughters, Kelly (Dave) Green, Ronda (Verlin) Potts; step-grandson, Bryce Beyerink; sister, Carol Jean Morrison; and brothers, Carl and Larry McKnight.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, April 23, 2010 at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Ave., Des Moines, burial to follow at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Frankie Kay,
I'm so sorry. He was a wonderful man and will be greatly missed. I'm so thankful that he made it out to my Dad's birthday party last year. We spent a long time talking in the parking lot. He was always a joy to be around.
