Anthony Darnell Dudley

Anthony Darnell Dudley, 53, of Des Moines, passed away Wednesday, February 11, 2026. He was born July 24, 1972, in Des Moines to Edward Carl Dudley Jr. and Margaret Mae Herndon.

Anthony enjoyed spending time with his family and loved to work on cars and go fishing. He was the jokester of the group. He loved making everyone laugh. Anthony enjoyed a good party.

Survivors include his two sons, Tyler Anthony Smart and Isaac William Carl Dudley; mother, Margaret Mae Herndon; and aunties, Winifred Davis, Robin Cobbins, and Sheryl Dudley.

Even though Anthony was an only child, he had several family members who were like his siblings: Lois Lewis, Tracy (Kevin) Hendrix, Allen Dudley, Val Wilson Jr., Myron Shade, Brandon Shade, Timothy Shade, John Henderson, Warnell Zigler, Linda Dudley, Michelle Cornelious, Joseph Brown, all from Des Moines; Tywon Dudley of Arizona; and Rosetta Smith and Brian Dudley of Milwaukee, just to name a few. He will also be remembered by his honorary brothers, David Cornelious, James Brown, and Dwight Brown, all from Des Moines; as well as a large host of other cousins, uncles, aunts, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Edward Carl Dudley Jr.; grandmothers, Sally Minie Herndon and Betty Dudley; grandfathers, Edward Carl Dudley Sr. and William Robinson; and his uncle, David Dudley.

Words of comfort and support can be shared with the family at the visitation from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines, followed by a service honoring Anthony’s life beginning at 1:30 p.m., on Friday, February 20, 2026. Committal prayer service and burial will be held at Glendale Cemetery.
