Alaina Watson-Thies
October 15, 1990 — November 04, 2025
Alaina Watson-Thies of Des Moines, IA, passed unexpectedly on November 4, 2025, shortly after her 35th birthday.
She was born to Angela and Roger Watson and grew up with her brother, as well as numerous pets, on the south side of Des Moines. Alaina was a shy and reserved child but was a caring and gentle person to her last breath. To those that got past her timid exterior, she was always described as both loving and humorous and no visit to her home was devoid of laughter.
Alaina is preceded in death by her mother and best friend, Angela Watson; as well as her Uncle, Mart Watson. She is survived by her father, Roger Watson; husband, Samuel Thies; brother Alec (Grace) Watson; sister, Heather (Brian) Vance; nephews Chris, Deven, Tripp and Henry; nieces Beth and Cora; great-nieces Ariel and Aurora; and cousins Danielle, Michael and Bailee.
Much of Alaina's tremendous heart was dedicated to her love of animals so this could not be written without their mention. She is preceded in death by her dog Louise. A rescue animal in every sense of the word whose life started full of fear and doubt until she was rehabilitated by her loving mother Alaina. She is also survived by her beloved puppy Gruff, her patience-testing cat Vinnie, as well as many other four-legged nieces and nephews that she somehow spoiled more than her two-legged family.
Alaina's passing is nothing short of a tragedy; as unfair as it is untimely. She is carried on in the memories and hearts of those that knew her best and through the kindness she spread while on this earth. We could never return the love you shared in equal measure, Alaina, but hope you passed knowing that we will try our best to live up to the beautiful example you have set.
The family will be greeting friends from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 12, 2025 at Wakonda Christian Church; 3938 Fleur Drive, Des Moines. A funeral service will be held following the visitation at 12:00 p.m. at the church.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Animal Lifeline of Iowa.
