Anne Catherine Shaw

Anne Shaw, age 61, passed away unexpectedly at her home on June 10, 2025. She was born in Urbandale, IA on February 10, 1964 to Larry and Judy Shaw and spent her childhood in Des Moines.

Anne attended Roosevelt High School where she was a member of the track team. She continued her interest in sports during her time at Iowa State University, practicing Tae Kwon Do and ultimately earning her black belt, 2nd degree. After her graduation from college in 1986, Anne moved to Rockville, MD., where she lived until the mid-2000s, moving to Minneapolis to be closer to family, particularly her sister Beth. Anne enjoyed working for CDRG until moving back to Des Moines in 2021, following her sister’s death, to help care for aging parents.
Anne was a very caring person and thrived when helping others. She had many beloved friends and relatives who she often traveled to see. She always had at least one cat in her home and had to be restrained from getting a dog! Consequently, she spent several hours a week volunteering at the Animal Rescue League. She also loved gardening and spent many happy hours planting and weeding at Ramsey Village to cheer up her mother and other residents. When not engaged in productive activities, she loved to read, listen to music, and play cards and board games.

She will be greatly missed by her mother, Judy Westphal; brother, Dan Shaw and his wife, Meg Sislak of Medina, OH; as well as by a host of relatives and friends.

Preceding her in death were her father, Larry Shaw; and her treasured sister, Beth.

Visitation will be held from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Sunday, June 15, 2025 at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines, IA.

Memorials can be made in Anne’s name to the Des Moines ARL, ALS Association, or a charity of one’s choice.
