Arnold "Arnie" Lee Van Haaften

Arnold Lee Van Haaften, 98, passed away January 16, 2026.

He was born August 21, 1927 to his parents Bert and Hilda Van Haaften on a farm near Pella. Arnie served in the Army from 1945 to 1947, then returned home to Pella to work in the trucking business. In 1955, he started Arnie’s Motor Freight in Altoona, Iowa and retired in 1990. During his retirement, he LOVED traveling in his motor home and becoming a Florida snow bird.

Arnie is survived by his wife, Kathy Van Haaften; daughter, Carolyn (Dennis) Keller; son, Sean Van Haaften; four grandchildren, Stephanie Keller, Sara (Jeremy) Brummond, Adam Van Haaften, and Grant Van Haaften; and five great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy; son, Arnold Lee Van Haaften, Jr.; and four sisters, June (Maurice) Verros, Madeline Ruud, Geraldine (Bob) Hughes, and Joann Devries.

Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, January 24, 2026 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Hamilton’s Altoona Funeral Home, 105 4th Street S.W. in Altoona. Family asks for no flowers or memorial contributions only your presence.

Arnie’s cremated remains will be interred at Altoona Cemetery at a later date.
