Barbara A. Detrick

Barbara Ann Detrick, 83, passed away Thursday, June 5, 2025, at Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

Barb was born May 19, 1942, in Des Moines, Iowa to Martin and Betsy Witzenburg. She was raised in Des Moines and Pleasant Hill, moved to Arizona during high school, and graduated from Tucson, Arizona. Immediately following graduation, she married Ron Detrick on August 20th. They returned to the Des Moines area in 1962. Barb was owner and bookkeeper of Detrick Excavating for 32 years. She was a member of the the Does, Eastern Star, and the Red Hat Society. She enjoyed playing cards, bridge, and mahjong. She was a volunteer for the Iowa State Fair and loved Corndog Kickoff. She cherished her family and loved getting Snaps of her great-grandkids.

She is survived by her sons, Mark (Lucy) Detrick and Brent (Karen) Detrick; grandsons, Taylor (Jamie), Jason (Albee), and Grant (Logan); and great-grandchildren, Bentley, Hadley, Ethan, and Henry; as well as other extended family and friends.

Barb was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald Detrick in 1989 and her parents, Martin and Betsy Witzenberg.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 11, 2025, at Hamilton’s Funeral Home, 605 Lyon Street, Des Moines. Graveside Service will follow at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 12, 2025, at Oakwood Cemetery in Pleasant Hill.
