Bonnie Neiderheiser Hamling, age 86, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 10, 2025, at her home while under hospice care.

Bonnie was born May 31, 1939, in Jefferson, Iowa to Roy Leonard Morlan and Beatrice Mildred (Fethkenher) Morlan. She graduated from Jefferson High School. She married Marvin Neiderheiser on September 8, 1957, and they shared 46 years together prior to his death on March 2, 2004. She later married Maurice Hamling, who also precedes her in death.

During her career, she served several Iowa newspapers for over 30 years, including Globe Free Press (Grand Junction, IA), Bee and Herald (Jefferson, IA), Brooklyn Chronicle (Brooklyn, IA), Humboldt Independent and Humboldt Advertiser (Humboldt, IA), and Des Moines Register (Des Moines, IA). Many of her newspaper years featured her own personal column, “Windows and Mirrors”. Following the move to Des Moines with her husband in 1989, she was employed as the Administrative Services Supervisor with Allied Insurance in its mortgage division. Allied was later purchased by Nationwide Insurance, from where she retired in 2011.

She is survived by her children, Bill (Deb) Neiderheiser and Kathleen (Brian) Smith; daughter-in-law, Karla Neiderheiser; six grandchildren, Lily Smith, Craig (Lindsay) Neiderheiser, Mike Neiderheiser, Tonya (Joey) Reiners, Matthew Neiderheiser, and Emma Neiderheiser; and four great-grandchildren, Arlie Neiderheiser, Hollis Neiderheiser, Justice Wolfe, and Kienna Roxiociasablam.

Bonnie was preceded in death by her husband and father of her children, Marvin Neiderheiser; her second husband, Maurice Hamling; son, Dan Neiderheiser; grandson, Daniel Neiderheiser; and her brothers, Ralph Morlan, Frank Morlan, and Warren Morlan;

Visitation will be held from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m., followed by a memorial service at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 17, 2025, at Glen Echo Christian Church, 4323 Douglas Avenue in Des Moines. There will be a reception after the service. Private family burial will take place at Paton Township Cemetery.
