Bonnie J. Phillips

Bonnie Jeanne (Gyles) Phillips, age 75, passed away peacefully Wednesday, August 13, 2025, at Taylor House Hospice in Des Moines, Iowa.

Bonnie was born November 26, 1949, in Des Moines, Iowa to John E. and Doris L. (Cleghorn) Gyles. Her greatest joy was her family and she took pride in her role as a homemaker. Bonnie enjoyed fishing, playing Bingo, and visiting casinos to play the slot machines.

She is survived by her children, Jerry (B.J.) Phillips, Kim Mongar, Troy (Chris) Phillips, and Jack (Tracy) Phillips; twelve grandchildren; twenty-two great-grandchildren; siblings, Jack (Cindy) Gyles and Joni (Keith) Smith; many nieces, nephews, other extended family, and friends; and her beloved cat, Mr. Squishy.

Bonnie was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Russel Lee Phillips, Jr.; son-in-law, Bob Mongar; parents, John and Doris Gyles; and her siblings, Debbie Watson, Carol Freeman, Robbi Reed, Francie Watson, and Mick Gyles.

There will be a graveside service at Iowa Veterans Cemetery in Van Meter, Iowa at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 3, 2025.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Animal Rescue League in Bonnie’s loving memory.
