Barbara Jo Burns
March 02, 1949 — March 04, 2026
Barbara Jo Burns, 77, passed away peacefully at her home in Hartford on March 4, 2026, just two days after celebrating her birthday. Born on March 2, 1949, in Des Moines to William and Betty Parker.
Barbara lived a life defined by a quiet, nurturing spirit and a heart that always had room for one more. A dedicated caregiver, Barbara spent many years as a CNA, offering comfort to those in need, and later brought her friendly smile to her colleagues and customers at Walmart. When she wasn't busy helping others, she could often be found with a crochet hook in hand or immersed in a new craft project, creating tangible reminders of her love.
Some of her happiest memories were made alongside her husband, Bob, during their annual tradition of exploring the Iowa State Fair. An avid animal lover, Barbara cherished her beloved dog, Bug, and found beauty in all creatures. However, her greatest joy was her family. She was the steady heartbeat of her home, living for the moments spent with her children, her many grandchildren, and her 19 great-grandchildren.
Barbara is survived by her devoted husband, Bob; her children, Jamie Burns, Missie Burns, Lisa Bloss, and Pattee (Eric) Berglund; 13 grandchildren; Jessica (Danny) Wallace, Travis Sickler, Amber Fee, Brandee (Daniel) Bassford, Ashley Mapes, Myrissa Rothfus, Ryan (Kari) Rothfus, Chelsea (Ben) Richards, Kristen Hall, Spencer Bloss, Lauren Bloss, Quintin (Amber) Berglund and Cael Berglund; 19 great-grandchildren; and her beloved dog, Bug.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers, Denny and Bill Parker.
The family invites friends to share memories on Thursday, March 12, 2026, at Hamilton’s Southtown Funeral Home, 5400 SW 9th Street. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., followed by a funeral service at 12:00 p.m.
In honor of Barbara’s lifelong love for animals, memorial contributions may be directed to the Marion County Humane Society.
