Barbara Ann Rhodes

Barbara Ann Rhodes, age 86, passed away Sunday, July 19, 2026.

Barbara was born June 14, 1940, in Van Wert, Iowa at Leon Hospital to Max “Brown” Rhodes and LaJune Akers Rhodes. She was proud to have grown up on a farm and was a country girl at heart her whole life.

She had many positions during her lifetime and was a very hard worker. She was a keyboarder for Look Magazine, cleaned houses, and lived and worked on a farm. Barbara loved playing Bingo and she spent many hours doing volunteer work. She raised chickens and canned vegetables. Barbara was a member of Eagles Lodge in Osceola.

She is survived by her son, Richard Lee (Lori) Rhodes of Pleasant Hill; grandchildren, Aaron (Jordyn) Rhodes, Colby Rhodes (Vanessa Simmons), and Sarah Rhodes (Zach Simmons); and seven great-grandchildren.

Barbara was preceded in death by her siblings, Shirley June Jackson of Van Wert, William “Bill” Rhodes of Van Wert, Patty Kay Bethards of Osceola, and Carolyn Maxine Fullerton of Osceola; and her parents, Max and LaJune Rhodes.

Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 11:00 a.m., Friday, July 24, 2026, at Hamilton’s near Highland Memory Gardens, 121 NW 60th Avenue, Des Moines. Burial will take place at Leon Cemetery after the funeral.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the family for a future designation.
