Braddock "Brad" Massey
August 08, 1980 — October 01, 2025
Braddock "Brad" Massey, age 45, passed into the arms of our Lord on October 1, 2025 in Rochester, Minnesota. His passing was a result of complications following a surgery for newly diagnosed renal cell cancer.
Brad was born in Juneau, Alaska on August 8, 1980 to Raymond F. Massey, Jr. and Mary Jo (Wolters) Massey. Brad spent the majority of his childhood in Juneau, Alaska and graduated high school from Juneau-Douglas High School in 1998. He went on to attend Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science in 2003. During his undergraduate education he was a member of the Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity. After a brief interval of work, Brad went on to attend Drake University Law School and graduated with his Juris Doctorate in 2009. It was during his time at Drake Law that he met his future wife, Sarah (Stockton) Massey. They married in November of 2009. Brad followed Sarah to Columbus, Ohio where she completed her medical residency and they returned to West Des Moines, Iowa in 2013. Their daughter, Joanna was born in 2018 followed by a son, Augustus (Gus) in 2020 and ultimately a second daughter, Lucille (Lucy) in 2022.
Living in West Des Moines, Iowa naturally led Brad to pursue a career in the insurance industry. He spent most of his career managing workers compensation claims first at Nationwide Insurance followed by Sedgwick. He was working for SFM at the time of death.
Brad was an intelligent, hard-working and dedicated asset to his company, but his priority was with his family. He especially loved being a father. He was ever present with his three children and they are his true pride and joy in life. He enjoyed swimming with them, going on adventures to the park and travelling. His favorite vacations were those that allowed unspoiled time in nature with his wife, Sarah and his children; whether it be the mountains or the beach or somewhere in between. Brad also had a thirst for knowledge and you could often find him reading in his spare time as well as tirelessly cheering for the San Francisco 49ers.
He was preceeded in death by his parents, Raymond F. Massey, Jr. and Mary Jo (Wolters) Massey; paternal grandmother, Lucille Massey and paternal grandfather, Raymond F. Massey, Sr; maternal grandmother, Jeanne (Peltes) Wolters; and paternal grandfather, Edward Henry Wolters, Sr.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Sarah (Stockton) Massey; children, Joanna (7y), Augustus (5y), and Lucille (3y); brother, Christopher Massey (Jen); and niece, Ava Massey (7y) of Greensboro, North Carolina.
Visitation will be held from 4-6 p.m. Friday, October 10, 2025 at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway in West Des Moines, IA.
