Brenda Joyce Smith-Myers, age 65, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, April 26, 2026. Brenda was born on October 22, 1960, in Iowa City, Iowa, to Monford Smith and Violet Beltz.
Brenda had a heart that was truly one of a kind—big, warm, and full of love for everyone around her. She found joy in the simple things, especially being outdoors, soaking in the fresh air, and spending time with friends and family. Whether she was laughing, sharing stories, or just enjoying the moment, she had a way of making life feel lighter and more meaningful. Being a grandmother was one of her greatest blessings, and she cherished every second spent with her grandchildren, creating memories filled with love, laughter, and genuine happiness. She lived her life with kindness and warmth, leaving a lasting impression on everyone lucky enough to know her.
Brenda is survived by her loving daughter, Ellen Smith; her cherished grandchildren, Hailey Lenze (Cael), Shyann Smith, Jayden Parker, Jordan Parker, D’Aries Ware, and Jayrell Parker; and her siblings, Richard Smith, Dennis Smith (Betty Smith), and Beverly Lutheran (Arnold Lutheran). She is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Merna Scott and Marilyn Gist; nieces Sandra Lutheran, Amy Hernandez (Manuel), and Rebecca Lutheran; and nephews Scott Smith, Dennis Sanders, and Christopher Lutheran (Nicole).
She also leaves behind her bonus children, Maria Hall, Jason Trimble, and Heather Trimble; and bonus grandchildren, Zoe Wease, Riley Smith, Michael Hall, and Chansear Garrett; and bonus sister Beverly Randell.
Brenda was preceded in death by her parents, Monford and Marilyn Smith, and Violet Beltz; her beloved husband, Marvin Myers; her son-in-law, Mose Parker; and her grandson, James Taylor.
Brenda will be deeply missed but forever remembered for her love, strength, and the beautiful life she shared with those around her.
There will be a service held at Transformation Nazarene Church, 1451 E 25th St, Des Moines, Iowa, at 1pm.
