Brock Persinger
August 24, 1991 — July 14, 2025
Brock “Buck” Persinger, 33, of Des Moines, Iowa, passed away unexpectedly at his home on July 14, 2025.
Born on August 24, 1991, in Des Moines, Buck was a southside native and a 2009 graduate of Lincoln High School. He was a good friend, a loyal son and brother, a loving fiancé, and above all else, Buck was a devoted father.
From a young age, Buck loved baseball, spending his time playing at Fort Des Moines Little League as a pitcher, where his teammates would yell, “3 up, 3 down, and Buck don’t mess around.” He remained a lifelong Denver Broncos fan, cheering them on with unwavering loyalty. He grew up just a few steps away from his grandparents’ home—forming a deep bond with his grandma—becoming, in every sense of the word, a true “Grandma’s boy.” Buck leaned on his mom, Sherry, with great trust and respect. She was his steady compass—offering advice, encouragement, and hands-on help as he built his life and home. Many days were spent together in his yard, side by side, working on projects, sharing quiet conversations, and enjoying each other’s company in the simplest, most meaningful ways. His dad, Rick, has fondest memories of attending his baseball games. Whether cheering from the bleachers or stepping in to coach, he was always there—and always proud. Watching Buck play filled him with joy, and his pride in the young man Buck was becoming. Buck spent countless summers camping in the Rocky Mountains alongside Mom, Dad, brother, Dakota and sister, Sierra—formative years that nurtured a true love for nature, family, and quiet moments. His brother and sister weren’t just siblings; they were his first best friends. You couldn’t name one without naming the others—they were a trio, inseparable in childhood and forever connected in heart.
In 2010, Buck enlisted in the Air National Guard, serving his country with pride and honor. He was respected not only for his discipline and dedication, but also for his character. Buck also worked at Firestone for 12 years, where he was known as a dependable, hardworking teammate and a good friend to many.
Some of Buck’s favorite things in life were simple but sacred: playing a round of golf, getting too competitive in fantasy football, and relaxing in his backyard—his “sanctuary.” It was where he found peace, a place where he could just be himself and watch his family laugh, play, and grow. His kids meant the world to him. Everything he did—every choice, every step—was made with them in mind. He was the ultimate family man: present, dependable, and deeply loving. His children always knew they came first, not because he said it, but because he lived it every single day. Buck also shared a one-of-a-kind bond with his fiancée, Destinee, a love marked by laughter, mischief, and an almost childlike joy. The two were best friends and partners in every sense. He often joked that she was his fifth kid—and she wore that title with pride. Their connection was full of light, loyalty, and unshakable love. Buck and his crew of friends were always connected. Most of those friendships stretched back many years, standing the test of time through life’s ups and downs. They did everything together. Among those close friends, Buck was known by many nicknames—each one a testament to the unique place he held in their hearts.
Buck was a man of few words, but when he spoke, it meant something. And when he laughed—it was the kind of laugh that made everyone else join in. His presence was steady, comforting, and kind. He leaves behind a wide circle of loved ones—family, friends, coworkers, and fellow service members—who will carry his memory with deep love, pride, and gratitude for the time they had with him.
Buck was preceded in death by his gammy, Winnie Persinger; grandma, Donna Burton; uncle, Gary Thomas; Grandpa, Jerry (cowboy) Thomas; and good friend Charlie Colosimo.
He is survived by his parents, Rick (Leslie) Persinger and Sherry (Troy) Palmer; brother Dakota Persinger; sister Sierra (Matt) Young; fiancé Destinee Colwell; children Carter, Harrison, Aubree, and Cleo; gampy Bob Persinger; step-siblings Aaron Young, Chase (Brittany) Young, Breanna (Sean) DeGoey, and John Palmer; as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
The family will greet friends from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, July 25, 2025, at Hamilton's Southtown Funeral Home; 5400 SW 9th St, Des Moines.
