Carey G. Jury

Carey Jury, 76, of Clive, Iowa, passed away on July 11, 2026. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, Army Reservist, business leader, coach, and community volunteer, Carey lived a life defined by service, leadership, and an unwavering commitment to family and others.

Born on September 20, 1949, in San Diego, California, Carey was the son of Richard and Shirley Jury. He graduated from Lincoln High School in Des Moines in 1967, attended Grand View College, and later earned his degree from Drake University. In 1972, he began a successful career in the insurance industry with Allied Insurance. Following his time at Allied and State Auto, he joined Principal Financial Group in 1988.

Throughout his career at Principal, Carey held numerous leadership positions, ultimately serving as Senior Vice President of Health. He played an important role in the company’s growth and expansion efforts throughout the United States and Australia and was respected by colleagues for his leadership, integrity, and commitment to helping others succeed.

One of the most rewarding chapters of Carey’s life was the opportunity to live and work in Australia. He embraced the experience wholeheartedly, developing lifelong friendships and a deep appreciation for the people and culture. The years he and Ann spent there created memories they treasured and stories he enjoyed sharing for the rest of his life.

His commitment to service extended far beyond the workplace. Carey dedicated countless hours to Junior Achievement of Central Iowa, serving on its Board of Directors and helping young people prepare for successful futures. In recognition of his contributions, he received Junior Achievement’s prestigious Gold Leadership Award. He also served on the Board of Trustees of Grand View College, remaining actively involved with an institution that held a special place in his heart. Later, he continued his commitment to education by serving as Dean of Graduate Studies at Grand View University.

Family was at the center of Carey’s life. Married in 1971, Carey and Ann shared 55 years of love, partnership, and unwavering support for one another. He devoted countless hours to coaching his children in hockey, soccer, baseball, and football and spent many weekends traveling the country with his family for games and tournaments. He remained one of their strongest supporters throughout their lives. As a grandfather, he rarely missed a game, tournament, recital, or school event. Whether cheering from the stands, celebrating a victory, or offering encouragement after a disappointment, Carey found immense happiness in being present for the people he loved most. His children and grandchildren always knew they could count on him.

In retirement, Carey and Ann enjoyed spending time in Florida, where they formed lasting friendships and created treasured memories with family. Carey and Ann shared a love of travel and enjoyed spending time together in Asia, Europe, and the Caribbean. He loved reading, watching classic movies, and following Iowa Hawkeye sports, and in recent years became an enthusiastic fan of the Indiana Fever. A lifelong athlete, Carey enjoyed jogging and cycling and remained active throughout his life, even taking a bike ride on the day he passed away. He approached life with curiosity, optimism, and gratitude.

Carey is survived by his loving wife, Ann Jury; son, Rob Jury (Kristi); daughter, Kristin Beckman (Tim); grandchildren, Katelyn, Zach, Noah, Grant, Dillon, Derrick, Brock, and Jake; sisters, Annette Tom (Jesse) and Pam Jury; brother, Patrick Jury (Cathy); and many cherished nieces, nephews, extended family members, friends, and former colleagues.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Shirley Jury.

Carey will be remembered for the way he lived his life—with integrity, humility, generosity, and a deep commitment to family. He took great pride in the accomplishments of those he loved and was always ready with support, encouragement, and thoughtful advice. His family and friends will miss his steady presence, warm heart, and quiet strength, but they will carry forward the values he lived by and the example he set every day.

A memorial service celebrating Carey’s life will be held on Saturday, July 18, 2026, at Hamilton’s on Westown Parkway, 3601 Westown Parkway, West Des Moines, Iowa. The service will begin at 1 p.m., with visitation immediately following until 4pm.
