Carol Matthews

Carol Karen Matthews, 83, passed away July 17, 2026.

She was born March 20, 1943 in Des Moines, Iowa to her parents, Raymond and Dolores Knudson.

Carol worked for Rockwell Collins from 1966 to 1986. She was a member of the Eastern Star Polk City chapter. Carol enjoyed baking with her grandchildren and going to lunch with her high school friends. She was also found of all animals.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Kelly Matthews; husband, John Matthews Jr.; and her parents.

Carol is survived by her son, John (Robin) Matthews III; grandchildren, Kayla (Kameron) Mcfall, Jake Matthews, Kathleen (Colby) Despotovich and Kristina (Zach) Baack; great-grandchildren, John, Max, Sofia, Nadia, Mila, Ashlyn, and Brooklyn; and cat, Abby.

Celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Eastern Star Polk City.

I’m so sorry for the loss of such a wonderful neighbor. I’ll always cherish the memories of fishing in Canada, playing with and taking care of Jedro, and the kindness Jack and Carol showed when my grandma was sick. Thank you for those memories. So glad we were in two groups that met each month and had years and years of laughter. Loving the memories but missing you. Friendships begun in this world can be taken up again in heaven, never to be broken off. I'll be seeing you!
